… THE FIRST WINERY IN THE SAAR VALLEY
Founded in 1898, the former Prussian estate—perched high above the Saar River with its château-like charm and now protected as a historic monument—is considered the first winery on the Saar. Today, it is run as a family estate by siblings Felix and Annalena Heimes (& the rest of the family)
The estate’s most important grand cru vineyards are Serriger Herrenberg and Serriger Würtzberg.
The Heimes family currently cultivates around 17 hectares of vineyards, with grape varieties including Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Auxerrois.
The winery’s Vinothek (tasting room) is open weekly, offering guests the chance to sample the wines of Weingut Würtzberg. In addition, the estate regularly hosts events and tastings on site.
Felix on his philosophy:
My winemaking philosophy is rooted in low-intervention practices and in making the most of what our steep slopes offer us each year. It means crafting top-level wines with distinctive character—wines that are joyful to drink now, yet also have the potential to age gracefully. In truth, it’s exactly the kind of wine I love to have in my own glass. And all of it is done with passion and respect for tradition.
