On 01. July 2016, Dorothee Heimes and Ludger Neuwinger-Heimes together with their children Annalena, Mats and Felix took over the winery from Dr. Jochen Siemens. For legal reasons, a change of name was necessary with the change of ownership. We decided to return to the traditional “Würtzberg” name – the name under which the winery was founded in the 18th century.
Dorothee and Ludger both grew up in the Trier-Saarburg region and have always maintained close ties with the winegrowing region along the Saar and Mosel. Already Dorothee’s father, Dr. Lutwin Heimes, was intensively engaged in the production of wine and sparkling wine in Serrig.
In the summer of 2016, after many years of living in different places across Germany and the USA for study- and work-related reasons, we enthusiastically decided to use the acquisition of the wine estate to return home. We know that the production of wine with special character from the steep slopes of the Saar requires the utmost commitment and absolute passion. We are happy and excited to meet this challenge supported by the entire existing team. In particular, the winemaker, Franz Lenz, who is very familiar with the particularities and secrets of the Würtzberg, will pass on his tremendous knowledge and breadth of experience in the production of great wines at Würtzberg to Felix. Felix will soon complete his studies of enology and viticultural engineering in Geisenheim, and then fully devote himself to cultivating and carefully developing the tradition of the vineyard.
